The American Legion was founded in 1919 on four pillars: veterans’ affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism and children and youth.
The members of T. Nulty Post 471 of the American Legion are committed in our support of youth programs which include Cub Scouts, Junior ROTC, Young Marines and US Naval Sea Cadets. Cub Scout Pack 148 of Iselin and the North Jersey Unit of the Young Marines are sponsored by Post 471. Woodbridge High School’s JROTC and the US Naval Sea Cadets Earle Weapons Station receive monetary support from Post 471.
Each year Post 471 gives scholarships to a student at each of the Township’s high schools.
Pictured above, Ray Orriss, Commander American Legion Post 471 presents the Americanism Award and certificate and scholarship to PO3 Julie Santos. Petty Officer Santos is a senior at Colonia High School and a longtime member of the US Naval Sea Cadets from Earle Weapons Station. She will be attending Stetson University in Florida. Santos is the recipient of a four year ROTC scholarship.
Congratulations Petty Officer Santos!
