Memorial Day 2019                                        

We gather today for Memorial Day, not a 3 day weekend, super sales at the mall, or the start of summer barbecues.

It’s Memorial Day, a day to remember. To remember those who gave their all, the ultimate sacrifice. We remember our families, our Grandfathers and Grandmothers, our Fathers and Mothers, and most of all, those we call Brothers and Sisters.

For a time we lived together, we worked, we ate, and slept together and we laughed and cried together. We knew each other as well as you can know anyone. For some the sacrifice is quick, for others it’s long and suffering. We lose 20 Veterans a day to suicide. They are all to be remembered.                          

A long time tradition is our Poppy drive. We stand tall with a poppy in hand and the people step up. For the most part they thank us for our service, but some tell us about their family’s service.

And some walk up with their military shirt or hat and medals and we thank them, only to realize that they have never serviced. Stolen valor! How sad.

I would like to thank those who gave up their time to  help with our Poppy Drive this year.

We are here to serve others , not to seek glory for ourselves.

May you and your families have a wonderful Memorial Day, but remember those who gave theirall.
